Welcome to Mrs. Addington and Mrs. Williams's Fifth Grade Classroom!
We are looking forward to an exciting year. Below you will find some information about our classroom. After logging in, you can find weekly updates under the Announcements tab.
5th Grade Units of Study
Montrose uses the units of study from the Teacher's College Reading and Writing Program (TCRWP). We have found this workshop model helps our students grow as readers and writers. We will explore reading topics in realistic fiction, nonfiction, fantasy, opinion, and historical fiction. We will write personal narratives, nonfiction research projects, memoir, fantasy, and persuasive pieces.
In math, we are using Number Talks, My Math, Rich Problems and other activities to grow mathematicians. Units of Study include multiplication review, division, and lots of fractions.
In Science and Social Studies, students experience hands-on activities designed to guide them in discovering new ideas. Our social studies units include Early Explorers, Ancient Civilizations, Native Americans, and Economics. Our science units include Force and Motion, Solar System, Light and Sound, and Scientific Inquiry and Processes.
