Entering first grade is a very special and important time.  Children, along with their parents, are often filled with so much excitement and perhaps some anxiety as they anticipate the growth that will take place in the months ahead.  There is an incredible progression in reading and writing fluency as well as an increased and broadened understanding of numbers and their functions.  There is also an astounding amount of emotional and social growth, as each child is guided and strives to understand so many new things. 

The responsibility of the parent and teacher in this process is very rewarding and requires the deepest of commitments.  It also requires tremendous nurturing, support, encouragement, teaching, limit setting, consistency, and solid communication between home and school.
