Welcome to Mrs. Hecker's school counseling resource site. As always, if you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
The mission of the Bexley City School District school counseling program is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students.
School counselors are professional school advocates who provide support to maximize student potential and academic achievement. In partnership with other educators, families, professional associations and organizations, universities, and the community, school counselors facilitate the support system to ensure all students in the Bexley City School District have access to and are prepared with the knowledge and skills to contribute as responsible, productive, respectful members of society.
I love being a school counselor and working with your children. I have a BS in Education from Miami University and a M.Ed. in School Counseling from Bowling Green State University. I have a been a school counselor in Bexley since 2006. My goal is to help all students feel safe, cared about, successful, and included.
I am your child’s school counselor. Together with the classroom teacher, I want your child to be as successful as possible at school. Success in school is not just about reading and math. It is also about knowing how to learn and how to get along with others. As part of the comprehensive counseling program at Maryland, I will be visiting classrooms on a regular basis for classroom guidance lessons.
Classroom guidance lessons will focus on learning and practicing skills to help students learn, focus attention listen carefully and being assertive when asking for help with school work or social situations. Students will learn to identify and understand their own and other’s feelings and specific skills for coping with strong feelings such as anxiety or anger. Students will also learn skills for building friendships and solving problems with others in a positive way.
Throughout the year you will receive several updates on what your child is learning during classroom guidance. I also offer small group counseling with parent permission and short term individual counseling. If you have any questions about the school counseling program please do not hesitate to contact me for more information.
Thank you for supporting your child in learning the skills that leads to success in school and in life. Click on my name below to access my website on the district website.
